Who is This Course For?
This is an entry level course giving you a basic grasp of brewing, and the main styles of beer. It is useful for those working in or looking to work for pubs, bars, brewery tap rooms, bottle shops or licenced wholesalers or retailers selling a range of beers. It can also be helpful for younger people looking to start out their careers in the industry.
It’s also suitable for those looking to learn a bit more about beer in a structured way, so they can enhance their enjoyment and appreciation. This makes a great present for the beer enthusiast in your life too.
Additional Information
You don’t need any prior knowledge of beer, but you do need to be over 18 at the time of attendance, as there’s beer tasting involved.
The classroom course is self contained. Everything you need to know will be taught on the day. It ends in a paper based exam in Manchester. If studying the online or self-study options, the exam takes place online. It is a 30 question multiple-choice exam and you must score 70% (21/30) or above to pass. Classroom Course
Our WSET classroom courses take place in central Manchester. They are run by a WSET Certified Beer Educator. You will be given the WSET Beer Level 1 workbook on the day.
You’ll have a guided tasting of 10 different beers, as well as a practical food and beer pairing excercise.
You’ll take the paper based exam at the end of the final session in the afternoon.

Online Course
This is a four-week course with a choice of start dates and is taught via the WSET Digital Classroom. It’s the same syllabus as the classroom course and you are given weekly activities, but you can study at your own pace. They will provide you with a list of beer to source for the tastings.
You can download your workbook from the online classroom, and we provide support via email and Skype (should you wish). The course materials are available for a year after the course has ended.
The exam will take place online and you can choose from a selection of dates that suits you (subject to minimum booking notice period of 15 working days).
