Covers the history and terroir of the region, winemaking, storage & service etiquette as well as making recommendations and food and wine matching suggestions to consumers
Description
This certification is suitable for professionals, enthusiasts and students such as wine shop staff, sommeliers, catering professionals, food distribution professionals, executives/buyers/sellers in the wine and spirits sector, wine industry professionals, tourism professionals, wine journalists, importers, wine trainers, students in the hotel, catering and luxury goods industries, etc.
Candidates should have completed the CIVC’s online MOOC courses to at least Level 2 (up to 3 is recommended) in advance of attending: Visit the CIVC online classroom
- 3 consecutive week classroom format.
- Classroom times: 10am-5.30pm
- Try 12 premium tasting samples in a range of styles from different producers
- This course is created and managed by the Comité Champagne, which guarantees verified and up-to-date content, as well as the assurance of a global vision of Champagne
- Successful candidates will receive a certificate from the CIVC

Course Contents
Session 1:
- Introduction, tasting basics, food and wine pairing
- Practical workshop: The perfect pairing
Session 2:
- Champagne terroir
- Practical workshop: The Champagne game
Session 3:
- The Champagne Method
- Practical workshop: The cellar master
Session 4:
- Advice, service and storage
- Practical workshop: The wine shop manager
- Exam: 1hour & 45 minutes
The exam consists of a theory paper (30 multiple choice questions of 30 marks & 2 open questions – 30 marks) & a tasting of 2 Champagnes, 40 marks (description of the characteristics of the Champagne tasted, presentation of a sales argument to promote this Champagne & suggestion and explanation of a harmonious food and Champagne pairing). A minimum of 55% (55/100 available points) is required to pass the assessment. Your first attempt is included with your initial registration fee. Resits can be arranged for additional cost, if required.
