The WSET Level 2 Beer is an intermediate level course. You don’t need to have taken Level 1, however it does build on it and provides a clear pathway for further learning.

  • You do not need any previous experience, but it is suitable for industry professionals and those with a really keen interest in beer who have some existing knowledge already (it is much less basic than the Level 1)
  • This course focuses on how key ingredients and production processes influence the style and quality of beer. It will also teach you how to taste, describe and evaluate the quality of beer
  • You’ll be able to talk about beer confidently & become a recognised expert!
  • We have traditional, classroom based in person WSET Level 2 Beer courses led by one of our expert educators in Manchester
  • Alternatively, you can study more at your own pace with an online course. Dates starting every month are available, and you can take the exam online remotely too (subject to minimum technical requirements)
  • Find out what you’ll be studying on the course specification here

Who is This Course For?

This is a more in depth, intermediate course. However, you do not need any previous experience or be required to pass the Level 1 before enrolling.

You will learn about a wide range of beers. You’ll also learn how to confidently describe beers having tasted over 60 samples and understand the factors that impact their style and quality.

It is useful for those working in or looking to work for pubs, bars, brewery tap rooms, brewery sales, bottle shops or licenced wholesalers or retailers selling a range of beers. It can also be helpful for younger people looking to start out their careers in the industry.

It’s also accessible for really keen enthusiastic consumers looking to increase their formal knowledge to make better buying decisions, or those people wanting to build on the knowledge from their Level 1 course.

Additional Information

You need to be 18+ at the start of the course, as there’s beer tasting involved.

Students will be required to undertake at least 12 hours of private study in addition to the classroom sessions, in order to complete the qualification successfully.

The classroom course ends in a 50 question multiple-choice exam which lasts for one hour. You must score 55% (28/50) or above to pass.

Those who pass will get a certificate and lapel pin and the right to use the associated WSET Certified logo. For more details about the course & what you’ll be learning click here.
