This is a five-week course with a choice of start dates and is taught via the WSET Digital Classroom. It’s the same syllabus as the classroom course and you are given weekly activities, but it is modular and self guided with no live classes, You can study at your own pace.

A 5-week online course delivered by the WSET’s Online Classroom. It’s the same syllabus as the classroom course and you are given weekly activities, but it is modular with no live classes to attend at set times.
Please note that tasting samples are not provided for this version of the online course. You will need to source these yourself.
What’s covered?
- The main ingredients used in beer production, how they are processed and their influence on the style of beer produced.
Malt and adjuncts, water, hops and other flavourings, yeast and bacteria - How beer production influences the style and quality of beer: alcoholic fermentation process, brewing process, brewing equipment, beer production options, spontaneous and mixed culture fermentation options.
- The key principles and processes involved in the storage and service of beer: Ideal conditions for storage, packaging and shelf life, service temperatures, glassware, beer on tap, bottled beer, common faults, beer and food.
- How over 60 beer styles are produced and labelled and their typical characteristics: Malt-driven lagers, malt-driven ales, hop-driven lagers, hop-driven ales, yeast-driven ales, mixed fermentation styles, other speciality beers.
You’ll taste at least 24 beers, covering a range of styles.
The course ends in a 1 hour exam. It is a 50 question multiple-choice exam and you must score at least 55% (28 marks out of 50) to pass.
You will be provided with a list of beer samples to source for the tastings.
You will be sent the WSET Spirits 2 Study Guide, a manual and SAT tasting card. We provide support via email and Zoom (should you wish). The course materials are available for a year after the course has ended.
You also have free access to our WSET Spirits 2 study guides so you can consolidate your learning and practice before the day. The exam will take place online and we will register you for a date that suits you.
Those who pass will get a certificate and lapel pin.
